Population per route mile tabulations provide numbers that are very competitive with conditions in France. And numbers for a Cincinnati > Indianapolis > Chicago line actually exceed France’s Paris > Lyon > Marseilles line. Will you ever see a chart like this on TV or in The Enquirer? How long before a 700 WLW host hangs up on a caller with these figures?

France has only a few cities of note other than Paris; Marseilles and Lyon, the country’s #2 and #3 cities respectively, are each smaller than Cincinnati. But both not only have tram (modern streetcar) lines, they each have several subway lines apiece. Neither are defined by the large parking lots and garages that characterize nearly all American cities.
