ROTTEN.
My parents are terribly reluctant to throw out any food, past expiration or not. My sister and I routinely find products literally years past expiration in their fridge. Salad dressing expired in 1999, butterscotch ice cream topping expired in 1998. My attitude on this has been “meh,” while it frustrates my sister to the point of anger. Today’s developments have left me going O.o
A couple of weeks ago, we shopped at Costco. I bought a large package of refrigerated beef-cabbage rolls. About a week later, my dad comes in from the garage with the package of cabbage rolls, which apparently we missed while unloading the car and had sat in the summer heat for a week and gone bad. The smell was disgusting. Ok, no big deal, I thought, we’ll just throw them out.
I just went out to the garage freezer (where we keep frozen pizzas), and discovered that, in lieu of throwing the rotten food out, my dad decided to write “ROTTEN” on it in black Sharpie, and then put it in the freezer.
To what end, I have no idea.
